If you have children you'll know how much they enjoy making things, and if the results are sickly and sweet then doubly so, even more if they can get messy in the process. 1. Coconut balls
christmas treats recipes |
You will need:
- 180g of sugar
- 2 eggs
- 250g of desiccated coconut
- Butter
Beat the eggs and sugar together then add the desiccated coconut. Grease a baking tray with the butter, then make the coconut mixture into little balls - you should be able to make about 14. Cook them in the oven for 15 minutes at 160C, then leave to cool before devouring them like a little monster.
2. Oatmeal and Apple Balls
You will need:
- 3 apples
- 1.7 oz of brown sugar
- 1 grated lemon
- 5 oz of flour
- 2 tbsp of cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- 9 oz of oatmeal flakes
This one isn't quite so sugary but still delicious and fun to make. Start by cooking the apples in a pan of water, then allow them to cool. While they're cooking, mix together the brown sugar, flour, oatmeal, cinnamon and eggs. Once the apples have cooled process them down into a puree. Mix everything together and make into balls! Brown them in the oven until done, being careful not to burn or overdo them.
3. Solid Pumpkin Candy
For this one you're going to need:
- 2 lbs of pumpkin
- 1 cup of orange juice
- 1 tbsp of grated orange rind
- 4 tbsp of brown sugar
- 1 tbsp of Agar
- 2 tbsp of honey
Start by peeling and chopping the pumpkin into smaller pieces. Cook it in a pan along with the orange juice, grated orange, and sugar over a mild flame. Remove the pumpkin and process.
Next, dissolve the Agar in cold water and cook it for ten minutes in the orange juice over a mild flame again. Add the honey, and processed pumpkin. Pour the whole thing into a cake tin, then refrigerate. It should set when cold, and you can cut it into smaller pieces!
There you go, 3 delicious and easy treats to make with your kids during the winter break - just make sure they get to eat the results too!
